And even if Neji hadn’t been chosen as Lee’s opponent for the next fight in the exam, it seemed that Lee was planning to challenge Neji to a fight for a long time, and since Neji didn’t know just how far Lee was ready to go during that hypothetical fight, he would’ve accepted - and possibly died from it. Neji probably never knew about that, but he got extremely lucky that Gaara beat up Lee so badly that Lee was out of commission for a while otherwise, Neji could’ve been facing Lee in the next fighting round and it would have for sure ended very badly for both - I’m guessing they’d both die, Neji from Lee’s gate opening technique, and Lee from too many hits from Neji’s Gentle Fist fighting style. Remember how when Lee opened the gates and hit Gaara, Maito Gai was surprised that Gaara even survived that blow? And when Lee did that, we heard from his mental monologue that he was planning to keep that technique for his future fight with Neji… and we’re talking about a deadly technique here. Nevertheless, that’s not the worst part - no, there‘s also the fact that Maito Gai was encouraging Lee to literally kill Neji for no reason and personally preparing Lee to do that. Thus, Gai didn’t teach Neji anything either. The only thing Tenten seemed to be good at was her aim with weapons - but all ninjas have a good aim, even Sakura’s aim is excellent! And throwing weapons at the right place is something that ninjas can learn entirely on their own - therefore, in all that time during which she had Maito Gai as a sensei, it’s the only thing she learned, since Gai evidently never bothered to show her anything else!Īnd 100% of Neji’s tricks come from his Byakugan and trainings that he did with his family we‘ve seen the Hyuugan clan members train together. Like apparently Gai never taught Tenten anything about strategy or analyzing her opponent’s strengths and jutsus, because everyone could easily see that Temari’s wind style defence made all of Tenten‘s weapon attacks worthless, and yet Tenten just kept doing that over and over again, and she was actually expecting to win! Furthermore, Tenten, Rock Lee and Neji are a little older than the three teams I mentioned above, because Maito Gai decided to wait more before making them take the Chunin exams, in order to prepare them better well, it‘s crystal clear that it was only Rock Lee he prepared! In addition, Tenten’s taijutsu was lousy - she wasn’t fast and her running was awkward. It seems that Maito Gai taught nothing to Neji or Tenten remember how pathetic Tenten’s performance in the Chunin exams was? She just kept dumbly doing the same trick that clearly doesn’t work against Temari, a trick which by the way pretty much any ninja could pull off, and of course got defeated in seconds by Temari’s first and only attack. Of course, he’s not the only sensei with a favourite student Kakashi’s favourite before Shippuden was Sasuke, Kurenai‘s was Hinata and Asuma’s was Shikamaru, however for Maito Gai it was really to an extreme degree. However, there are important reasons for Guy's particular love for Taijutsu.Let’s start with the obvious: he has a favourite student. This fact is often accepted at face value, but in reality, it makes one wonder why a talented ninja like Guy would ever limit himself. He's fully capable of both Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, which he shows off in his very first appearance in "Naruto" Episode 21. Unlike his protege, however, Guy doesn't need to only rely on Taijutsu. In fact, Guy was one of the only people in the world capable of even being a threat to Madara. On top of that, he was declared by Leaf Village co-founder and "God of Shinobi" Madara Uchiha to be the most powerful Taijutsu user ever during their fight. He is the eternal friendly rival of Kakashi (who owns one of those aforementioned funny eyes) and basically has an even win-loss record with him despite rarely ever using Ninjutsu (practical ninja magic) or Genjutsu (illusory ninja magic). As the sensei to Rock Lee, Guy is the foremost Taijustsu (martial arts) specialist of the Hidden Leaf Village.
